Confrontation Battle Report:
December 9th, at the Dueling Grounds

Here are some shots of the scenery before the battle was joined.
As you can see in the 3rd shot, the sections that don't have many
hills on them tend to warp a bit.
I'll probably glue a second board (coated sides together) to the
bottom and use some clamps to hold it in place until it dries. Hopefully
this will level them out.
I'm going to look into some mdf board. A friend of mine used to paint on it and he says he never encountered a warping problem.

You can also see a spot on the top and side photo where a small
chunk snapped off one of the hills.
I still have to re-score and touch that up.
I have a few pieces in progress that are flat, but are covered
in gradually sloping hills.
In the new year I'm going to get some other size board sections
cut down as well... 2'x2', 1'x3', 1'x2'... this should allow us
to create some larger terrain pieces.

This shot has a few figures on it just so you can get a sense of scale.
Each section is currently 1'x1' square.
Andrew's Dirz warrior priest is in the foreground and Klaus' Sessair
Kelts are in the far background.
The sections in the foreground are not 100% complete yet.
They will still be having some more flock added and a few stones
and bushes etc. to flesh them out.

Kelt Deployment:
Claus deployed his troops in a line, with his Centaur, Giant barbarian
and Kelt warriors on the left flank, Kelen and Bragh in the center
and his Minotaur "Fifi" on the Right flank.
His Scout, a single Kelt Hunter is forward of the main group.

Acheron Deployment:
Andrew deployed in a fairly tight group, keeping the Gorgon, Armoured
Zombies, Spectre and one of his Zombie Horseman all in a group.
His Centaur Lord and a second Zombie Horseman deployed at either
end of the group.

Griffin Deployment:
Brian deployed in a very tight group. Arkos, the Priestess of Steel
and three Templar Brothers all in a close formation.
Not seen in this photo, four Thallion scouts were placed in advance
of the main group.

The Undead forces utilize their faster moving cavalry
and prepare to initiate a wide frontal assault.
With the Zombies and Specter closing in, the Griffin forces move
into position around the rocks and form a defensive line.
Two Thallions retreat in the face of the Armoured Zombies and move
to join the Priestess and second group of Thallions to protect the
templars from the approaching Kelts.
The Sessairs, wisely keep their distance waiting for the Undead
and Griffins to engage each other.

The Undead fully commit themselves to
the fray and engage the Griffin forces.
In a moment of hesitation the Armoured Zombies get the drop on the
retreating Thallions and the Templar Brothers.
One Templar Brother also manages to fail his courage test vs. the
Specter even with Arkos right behind him!
The Priestess of Steel finds herself engaged with a Zombie Horseman, but one of the Thallions manages to avoid the Armoured zombies and come to her aid.

The Gorgon turns her gaze upon one of
the Templars and leave him seriously injured and with
one less die for combat.
The Specter finds himself outclassed vs. Arkos and is killed after
having managed to cause both Arkos and the Templar a light wound.

The Priestess and the Thallion show their
worth and destroy the Zombie Horseman without suffering
any wounds.
Arkhos and his fellow Templar follow up after their combat with
the Specter to assist in combat vs. another Armoured Zombie.
On the other side of the field, the Kelt Centaur manages to hurl
an axe into the flank of the other Zombie Horseman currently engaged
with the Thallion on the hill.

After suffering some serious losses, the Gorgon charges into combat to aid the Centaur Lord, but the Centaur Lord is still defeated by his Templar opponent.
Arkhos and the other Templar leap to the aid of the Thallion, still engaged with an Armoured Zombie from the previous turn.

Meanwhile on the other side of the battle, the Giant Barbarian has opted to climb the hill and engage the Thallion, leaving the Two remaining Thallions to deal with the Zombie Horseman.
The Thallion proves no match for the Giant and the Zombie Horseman falls in combat, leaving the path open for the remainder of the Kelt force.

The situation looks grim for
the Griffin troops as the Kelts throw themselves into combat.
The Priestess moves close to the Thallions to support them with
her "Aura of Severity" miracle disregarding the threat
of her powerful opponents.

The Kelt Hunter manages to
Critically wound the lone Thallion and he is then charged by "Fifi"
the Minotaur.
Arkos and a Templar turn away from the Gorgon in an attempt to kill
this terrifying beast!

The Priestess finds herself in deep trouble
as the Kelts kill one of the Thallions and manage to engage her
in combat.
Merin has not forgotten her however and she manages to defend herself
and even wound one of the Kelt warriors!
The Aura of Severity takes effect, but only one of the Kelts suffers
a wound.
The situation worsens.

The Priestess of Steel and the remaining Thallions have fallen. The Kelts close in for the kill.
The Gorgon's Darkness Familiar has managed to kill one of the templars and the Kelt Centaur has killed the other one with a well placed axe throw!
The Gorgon, now with a clear line of sight exacts her revenge on Arkos and turns him to stone!

The Gorgon finally falls under the Centaur's hooves and the last remaining soldiers of the Griffin force find themselves surrounded by Kelen, the Giant Barbarian, Bragh and Fifi... not a pretty sight!

The Kelts are victorious!
After suffering only a few losses, they have crushed all opposition. Their early delay allowed them to consolidate their forces and mount a true "spearhead" attack.
The Acheron warband met stiff resistance from the Griffin troop
and with a bit of bad luck, managed to lose most of their force
very early in the battle.
The Gorgon, however managed to injure and hold up some of the more
powerful Griffin warriors and as a result, the divided Griffins
were no match for the Kelts.
